We could really do with someone on the ground in Malawi. Not for the standard “do-gooding” trips cuddling babies etc but rather establishing contacts with schools, hospitals, local chiefs and so on. Confirming current school costs, establishing databases of contacts, establishing requirements for hospitals hosting EU medical students, visiting orphanages and schools – plus a range of other activities on our behalf.
The distance involved means that our promise of zero wastage (by evading local patronage issues, orphans who are not orphans, “skimming” of school fees by local chiefs and elders, monitoring actual attendance at school and oversight of their progress in school, sidestepping corruption etc) is only possible after a comprehensive and quality research project on the ground.
